Portraits and Life Studies

The studies using a model at life drawing classes are all done quickly as the poses are usually around 45 minutes. This means that oil painting isn't a good option and I tend to work in charcoal and pastel as it is possible to work fast without getting into trouble. When I have a portrait to do it is a much more protracted process and needs several sittings. I use photographs when I run out of time and also to spare the sitter. I tend to paint in oils as the colours remain the same as they dry.
